The Rat Race Cycle

Many of us Filipinos know how to work hard for the money, and we do EARN the money. However the question "WHY?" remains why most of us are not able to save and prepare for our retirement.

Others say, "I will save once I have more income" or thinks "I can only save if I have the extra money".  "Saka na muna pag lumaki na sahod ko"

But didn't you notice? The more bigger the money we get or earn, the more our money is stretched and much worse the more money spent leaving nothing ...

We think that now that we have more money or have bigger amount of salary, the more allowance I have for ourselves. Unknowingly, as your salary increases, your lifestyle changes too so what happens is you just go around in circles, going nowhere.

Experts say that the reason for this is the psychology of humans that the more money you have, the more money to spend. In addition, when we were kids, we got used to immediately spending money that are given to us. If a grown up will give you some money, you'd be running fast to the sarisari store to buy candies, junk food, and toys.  Like for example during Christmas, you'll get a lot of money from your Ninongs and Ninangs or from you parents, wow you are like millionaires, but I bet before the month of January ends you had spent all of that money already. You see that part of our culture greatly affects how we spend on our lifestyles as we grow up.

We buy new appliances, flat screen LED smart TV's, DLSR cameras, and other trending gadgets w/c we pay more for our electric bills. We want to look chill and cool to others, we buy brand new cars and extravagant houses where in return gives us headaches because of its maintenance.

Everything going in circles ...

This ladies and gentlemen is what we call the rat race cycle. Come to think of it, is this your current situation? You run through a never ending course until you run out of breath. Even if you are working abroad or earning six figures with your current job or business, if this is the race track you are running, then I assure you nothing will happen to you. This is also the reason why our beloved OFW are working abroad going back and forth sacrificing the time they have to spend with their families even up to their retirement age. We even have "TNT"s abroad becuase of the fear of not being able to get back to other countries to work and provide for their families. And the sad part, once they finally decided to go back to their loved ones, they would realize the money they work so very hard is just a very small fraction of what they have to spend in the future and was really not worth it.

It's because we dwell to much on the wants, and not the needs ....

It's because we spend too much on liabilities and not on assets ...

Yes you may look like rich with a house like this .....

Or even richer with a car like this .......
(cool right, not to mention the chicks)

But the question is, if you lose your job, will you be able to retain the same kind of lifestyle?

Until when can you sustain your lifestyle? One year? A month?  Maybe even after a week you may be struggling already. Remember income does not equal wealth. In the end it is always about what you kept and not what you earned.

So how do you get out of this rat race cycle? We heard a lot of sad stories from different people. From famous artists, boxers, politicians, or big people who were earning money but all of a sudden became poor. Even lotto winners whose life became more misrebale after they won.

However there are also a few stories called  "Rags to Riches". These people became succesful because they gave importance to financial literacy, they have proper goal setting. During the years they are working hard for the money, they alotted some money from their earnings to their financial freedom funds. The key here is DISCIPLINE dear readers.

While you are in the stage of earning and saving, study where your strengths are. Find jobs where you exel at or jobs you enjoy the most especially if you hate your current one. Jobs you love to do even if you will not be paid. But if you can't afford to lose the job at the moment, enjoy it until you can.

In the meantime, study about the art of investing, may it be in pooled funds (mutual funds, UITF, etc.), and stocks. You can learn even just through the internet, you just have to ask your best friend google. Find a business where your dreams can come true and most specially set goals and objectives in detail and make a plan how to achieve them.

In no time you will be amazed on how much money, knowledge or ideas, and other money making machines that will provide for your PASSIVE INCOME. And finally you can tell your boss that he's fired!

I have started planning for my goals and still in the process of continuous learning. I found a vehicle that I can ride to achieve financial freedom. You want to know more and how?

It's you're choice, change should begin now, or you can replace the rats above this post and run the rat race cycle
